In modern times, social knowledge patterns- ideologies- occur via mass media and its products. Mass media products such as news, movies, series, advertisements, cartoons product the symbols generating social knowledge patterns and give meanings to these symbols as a means of expression. From this point, the expressions in the mass media products are basically important on the social control and social alteration. In the constitution of the ideology, cartoons have an important role too. The problematics about the cartoons occur with fantastic productions with high watching rates. These pruducts are producted as fantastic fictions as well as visualised mythologic heritages of the societies. The basic hypotesis -inspired of sociology of knowledge- is these productions can't be independent from existing social knowledge patterns. It is claimed that the symbols in the cartoons have ideoligic messages on the contrary to the thought that the cartoons have a limited potential for having ideologic meanings which have an important role and fictionilised with an alternative life and world idea. The aim of the study is to question how ideologic meanings are given in cartoons. The reason of choosing the Avatar and Cille cartoons (the first one is an American and the other one is a Turkish production) is to examine: a) how they acquire materials from their social, political and cultural positions and conjonctures. b) what kind of symbols they produce to their social knowledge patterns. This study is based on Hermeneutical paradigm and sociology of knowledge is used as method. The cartoons Avatar and Cille are studied around Mannheim's ideology and utopia concepts, their relations with existing social knowledge patterns are examined and the ideologic formatting expressions are analyzed comparatively. Consequently, it is inferred that the Avatar cartoon tells that the US represented liberalism has no alternative and the US intervertionism should be accepted as a sacred mission. On the contrary, the Cille cartoon is based on the ideology imposing that the existing Turkish-Kurdish problems should be solved with national union and brotherhood.
