Hegel states that in the Phenomenology of Spirit he aims to describe the development of the experience of consciousness. The concept of experience itself refers to something lived. It follows that Hegel rejects all the previous philosophy which considers man and his history in terms of transcendent subjects who are situated outside time and history. The reason for this is that such philosophy attributes knowledge and practice to an assumed transcendent subject. In this case, being human becomes something given and knowledge in turn, turns into a phenomenon independent of history and society. Thus Hegel's rejection of this idea means that he sees being human as the achievement of man's own efforts through the historical time. Hegel thinks that man has no essence transcending this concrete world, no nature beyond time and space. This means that being human is a voyage realizing through history. Attaching the responsibility on what man has become to something else means that one has not understood the historical existence which itself signifies the way man is. The historical process is a finite one within the time span of the whole natural universe. A rupture in the natural existence has resulted in this kind of being which is called `human` and the adventure of history has thereby started. Man has the capacity to transform the natural world around himself by his own will. This transformation is actually a social practice and production which is the source of man's all knowledge. Man's social practice and the conceptualization of this practice constitute the historical movement of dialectic, both presuppose and support each other. Keywords: theory, practice, knowledge, history, dialectic, contradiction, spirit.
