The structural elucidation of metal carbonyls and their derivates has become an important research subject, since they are employed as starting material in the synthesis of organometallic compounds and also used as catalyst inorganic reactions. The number, intensity and frequency of the C-O stretching bands are directly related to the molecular structure of the metal carbonyls and their derivates. Therefore, infrared spectroscopy is widely used in the investigating stereo chemistry of metal carbonyls. The mechanism of the reactions in which metal carbonyls are employed as catalyst can be proposed by determining the stereo chemistry of intermediate products produced in the reaction. In additon, the molecular structures of organometallic compounds for which metal carbonyls are used as starting materials can be determined. Experimental data are always not enough for the calculation of the force constants which are required for the analysis of vibrational spectra of metal carbonyls. In such cases approximate methods have been used. The energy factored force field is employed in common and application of this method to metal carbonyls is known as CO-factored force field. In the application of this method, secular equations are established by considering only C-O stretching force constants and CO-CO interaction constants. However, when the method is applied to some metal carbonyls, two important problem are encountered; the first is the determination of the symmetry species of the observed C-O stretching bands. The second problem arises from the solving the secular equations since the number of the observed C-O strecthing frequencies is less than the number of unknowns (force constants). In such a case, it is mathematically evident that an infinite number of solutions to the secular equations will be possible. In order to obtain a valid solution, various approximate methods have been suggested. But application of some methods is quite difficult and some others have disadvantage of not being in accordance with experimental results.In this study, analysis of vibrational spectras at the carbonyl stretchin region of 13C-isotopomer of complex for single core cis-M(CO)4L2, ek- M(CO)4L and ak- M(CO)4L molecules having C2v and C3v point group, was made.

Metal karboniller ve türevlerinin organometalik bileşiklerin sentezinde başlangıç maddesi, organik tepkimelerde katalizör olarak kullanılmaları nedeniyle yapılarının aydınlatılması çalışmaları önemli bir araştırma konusu olmuştur. Metal karboniller ve türevlerinin C-O gerilme bandlarının sayısı, şiddeti ve frekansı molekülün yapısı ile doğrudan ilişkilidir. Bu nedenle infrared spektroskopisi metal karbonillerin stereokimyasının incelenmesinde yaygın olarak kullanılmaktadır. Metal karbonillerin katalizör olarak kullanıldıkları tepkimelerdeki ara ürünlerin stereokimyası incelenerek mekanizmalar önerilebilmekte ve başlangıç maddesi olarak kullanıldıkları organometalik bileşiklerin geometrisi saptanabilmektedir. Metal karbonillerin titreşim spektrumlarının analizi için gerekli olan kuvvet sabitlerinin hesaplanmasında deneysel veriler her zaman yeterli değildir. Böyle durumlarda yaklaşık yöntemler kullanılmıştır. Yaygın olarak kullanılan yöntem enerji ayırımlı kuvvet alanları yöntemidir ve bu yöntemin metalkarbonillere uygulanması CO-ayırımlı kuvvet alanları yöntemi olarak bilinir. Bu yöntemin uygulanmasında sadece C-O gerilme kuvvet sabitleri ve CO-CO etkileşim kuvvet sabitleri göz önüne alınarak seküler denklemler oluşturulur. Bununla birlikte, yöntemin bazı metal karbonillere uygulanmasında iki önemli sorunla karşılaşılır. Bunlardan biri C-O gerilme bandlarının simetrik etiketlenmesidir. Diğeri ise seküler denklemlerinin çözümünde ortaya çıkmaktadır. Çünkü gözlenen C-O gerilme bandlarının sayısı, bilinmeyen (kuvvet sabitleri) sayısından daha azdır. Böyle bir durumda, matematiksel olarak, seküler denklemlerin sonsuz sayıda çözümü olacağı açıktır. Geçerli bir çözümü elde etmek için çeşitli yaklaşık yöntemler önerilmiştir. Ancak bu yöntemlerden bazılarının uygulaması oldukça zor, bazılarının da deneysel verilerle yeterince uyum içinde olmaması gibi dezavantajları vardır.Bu çalışmada, C2v ve C3v simetrisindeki tek çekirdekli cis-M(CO)4L2, ek-M(CO)4L ve ak-M(CO)4L 13C izotopomerlerinin karbonil gerilme bölgesindeki titreşim spektrumlarının analizi yapılmıştır.
