ABSTRACT The aim of this study is to develop a voluntarism scale for adolescents and to investigate its validity and reliability properties. The basic reason of developing this scale is the need for such a scale in the Psychology literature. In this regard, the development process of the scale has started. Firstly, the literature has been reviewed. After this literature review, a group of highschool students were asked to write essays about willpower and a draft consisting of 134 items has been formed based on the literature and students' opinions. This draft has been sent to specialists; and a scale consists of 69 items has been prepared to apply to students in a predeterminated episode based on the these 12 specialists. This scale has been applied to high school students study in Istanbul, on 2015-2016 academic year. The data has been obtained from these students has been coded to SPSS 22 package software and then factor analysis has been done. According to the Exploratory Factor Analysis, a scale structure with two dimensions has emerged. These two dimensions have explained 57,291 % of the total variance and a scale consisting of 40 items emerged in the final form. According to the reliability analysis based on internal consistency reliability; Cronbach alpha internal consistency coefficients was found as.976 for the total scale; .954 for the cognitive subscale; and .965 for the Experiental subscale. According to the Confirmatory Factor Analysis results has shown that model fit indices and item loadings for the scale were all in adequate levels. The results of the analyses in the present study reveals that the scale has adequate levels in terms of validity and reliability. Key Words: Willpower,Volition, Independence- Freedom, Scale, Adolescent.
