Özet

The relationship between press and politics has ben continueing since 17th century when the contemporary press became up with conflicts/tensions. That's why the press history is accepted as history of struggle for freedoms. The importance of the press has realized and accepted by the governments that have been trying developing control mechanicms due to the functions of press as like agendasetting or channeling.By the development of contemporary law understanding and the determination of freedom of press as a constitutional right there is somehow a restriction of control mechanicms on press. But, however, I can not say this stopped the governments wills controlling of press. In modern times, there is a press law that defines the framework of the relationship between the press and governments and the regime of the press. This law is not only define the limits of the power of the press but also restricts governments' controlling attempts of the press. This dissertation is focusing on the relationship press, politics and society and the characteristics and the regime of the Turkish press since the founding of modern Turkey Republic. The objective of it is theorization of what emphasized in the previous sentence by developping a general model.
