This study has been done to find out the effect of the creative writing techniques to writing skills in english. The study group of the research is like that: The experiment group of the study is comprised of Zonguldak Kozlu Anatolian High School 11. grades language class students in spring term of 2010-2011 teaching year and the control group of the study is comprised of the students in Zonguldak Erdemir Anatolian High School 11. grades language class who have no significant difference with the experiment group in terms of their general success and socioeconomic situations. In the research, controlled pre test post test experimental design has been used. Before the practice period, pre-test comprising of three different writing tasks has been applied to the both of the groups to find out the success points associated with the writing skills in English. These three writing tasks have been assessed according to the creative writing grading scale and the points that have been gotten have been taken as pre-test points. During the practice period, creative writing lessons have been applied to the experiment group during 5 weeks , 4 hours in a week in total. In these studies, creative wrting activities have been used which have been developed by the researcher. In the research , Writing Interest and Awareness Questionnaire has also been applied to the experiment group before and after the practice period.Research data have been gathered by means of Creative Writing Grading Scale and Writing Interest and Awareness Questionnaire. In the research, SPSS 16. Windows programme has been used to analyze the data. During the analyze of the data, Wilcoxon test has been used in comparisions of the groups in themselves and Mann Whitney U Test has been used to find out how significant the average points are between the groups. To find out the tendency of opinions, percentages, frequencies have been used. The following results have been reached according to the findings gathered as a result of the statistical analysis of data gathered in research:1.In the analysis that have been carried out, there is a significant difference statistically between the post test mean of the experiment group and control group in favour of the experiment group.2.A significant difference has been found out in terms of the orjinality of ideas, fluency of the ideas, flexibility of the ideas, choice of the words, structure of the sentence, organization, style of writing, grammar between the post tests of the experiment group and control group in favour of the experiment group.3.When the average of the vocabulary the control group has written in the pre-test (123) and the average of the vocabulary they have written in the post-test (125) were compared, it has been found that there has been no meaningful change but when the average of the vocabulary the experiment group has written in the pre-test(120) and the average of the vocabulary they have written in the post-test(190) were compared, it has been found that there has been a significant difference.4.When the percentage and frequency of the Writing Interest and Awareness Questionnaire carried out to experiment group before the practice period and the percentage and frequency of the Writing Interest and Awareness Questionnaire carried out to experiment group after the practice period weren compared, a positive change has been observed in all of the items.
