The internal combustion engine is composed of many systems. These systems are largely associated and connected with each other. One of these systems is the exhaust system, too. Exhaust system components are exposed to the exhaust gas continuously until the engine stops. Because of a continuous manner to be exposed to the exhaust gas of the exhaust system, it reduces the life of the exhaust system. The exhaust system also exposed to deformation because of the negative factors such as water and mud in rainy weather and the spilled salt on the roads to prevent icing during the winter, and so on. In the internal combustion engine, the exhaust system must be replaced after a certain time according to the district and the conditions of their use,It is expected to provide significant benefits to both individual and the national economy when these components life improved. In this study, exhaust pipe was coated by a plasma spray method with chromium carbide (Cr3C2) material approximately 100 microns thickness. Coating was done in two stages. In the first stage, only the outer portion of the exhaust pipe was coated 100 microns thickness. In the second step, the interior and exterior portion of the exhaust pipe were coated with the same thickness. The study in first and second steps were compared with the standard exhaust system. By the coating of exhaust pipe with chrome carbide (Cr3C2), both the internal and external effects of the factors that cause deformation and the effect of physical and chemical solvents influencing will be reduced. Thus, factors reducing the life of the exhaust pipe will be covered by the coating material. The gas temperature of the chemical reaction process of the exhaust gas, decrease albeit, continues from the manifold outlet. End of the combustion temperature occurring in the combustion chamber is about 2700 ° C. Temperature of gas coming to muffler is about 300 ° C. Thus, coating the exhaust pipe will help to transform harmful emissions into harmless emissions such as CO2 and H2O by delaying the cooling of gases. As known catalytic converters, EGR and various catalysts work efficiently under high temperature. In this way, it will also help the emission controls to work more efficiently. The obtained results showed that as a result of the coating of the exhaust pipe by the plasma spray exhaust emissions and exhaust gas temperature values has been significantly improved. Moreover experiments showed that the life of the materials coated exhaust pipe increased more than to the standard exhaust pipe.
