Özet

Afghanistan has been conquered throughout its history by various powers due to its geopolitical importance. Although Afghanistan was under the Soviet intervention and Afghan mujahid resistance; the establishment of a sharia regime by Taliban, then the coalition powers under the leadership of USA invading the country on the excuse that it was considered as a source of terror, but it still retains its position in the world political agenda since modern times has witnessed. As mentioned above, the Afghanistan's importance was sourced from its geopolitical position. This position also constitutes the key point of the `New Great Game`. In consequence, the US invasion toward the region is not only wiping the so-called terror threat out, but also is a part of strategy that aims to establish an outpost line in order to control and prevent the progressive policies of China, India and Russia which take firm steps forward to become global power. Another important point is the tendency to control Afghanistan-based drug traffic. In the light of the foregoing arguments, this study will analyze the geopolitical importance of Afghanistan and the resulted problems from that importance over Afghanistan.
