In this study, it was aimed to determine the educational activities of the associations of local NGOs operating in the field of education in Istanbul and the problem areas they encountered in carrying out these activities. In the study, education associations operating in Istanbul, who are not branches/branches outside Istanbul, and who are not active in the international arena, have been selected. These associations were accessed via the website of the Directorate of Associations and a questionnaire was applied to an official in charge of the association in an online. The number of associations applied in the survey was 42. In the analysis of the questionnaires, frequency and percentage calculations were done. The questionnaire consists of 4 parts and 45 questions in total. The main axes of these questions are; the identity of non-governmental organizations, the information of associate members who responded to the survey, member profiles, educational activities of associations and detecting problems of associations. The following conclusions were reached in the study: A large number of local associations are establishing associations as a legal framework for making the work they do in their region more effective and reaching wider masses. At the beginning of the foundations of the associations are the deficiencies seen in national, religious and ethical fields. The associations organize meetings, conferences, seminars and panels to draw attention to the shortcomings of education policies, to raise awareness of the society on education and to support these changes. It is seen that most of the secondary and high school students are the ones who are educated by the associations. It has been found that studies that address pre-school, primary school, and undergraduate and graduate studies are inadequate.Another issue that arises in the study is that associations should not give much importance to the work that will create public opinion and influence the political decision-making processes.Associations are working in limited areas to cooperate with other NGOs. Among the collaborative activities they have jointly planned meetings, conferences, seminars and panel activities. One of the interesting results that came out of study is that associations develop little cooperation when they encounter legal/bureaucratic problems. The most important problem of associations is economic problems. The most common method used by the associations to solve their economic problems is to collect donations and subscriptions. Moreover, associations have not received sufficient support from private companies, EU and ministry funds, and official institutions and organizations. The most important expectation of the associations from the state is the taking of the views of NGOs in the formation of educational policies. Associations are looking for platforms in which mutual trust and dialog can be created between the state and NGOs in this process.
