In general, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) contributes to the development of social welfare on one hand, and it is considered as the foundation for the existence of corporations in a society on the other. It is regarded as a concept that introduces added value both to the society and to corporations. Therefore, Corporate Social Responsibility activities provide a platform where a corporation and the society can come together. When corporations cannot come together with their public on a common ground, certain movements that exert pressure on corporations, called activism, arise. Activism, in its most general sense, relates to the protection of rights and the improvement of conditions. The main purpose of this dissertation is to investigate the relation between Corporate Social Responsibility activities and activism. The hypothesis of the study is examining the relationship between the CSR activities carried out by private sector in Turkey and activism itself. In the first part of the study, the concept of Corporate Social Responsibility is analyzed while the second part examines the concept of activism and its relation with CSR in a scientific context. In the third part, according to the results of a research conducted by Capital magazine called ?Top 500 Private Companies in Turkey?, a survey was administered to the companies whose headquarters are in Istanbul and its analysis was made. According to the results of the research, despite the fact that there is a relationship between CSR and activism abroad, in Turkey, no relationship was found between CSR activities carried out by the private sector and activism. The development of activism in a society is triggered by the structure and process of democracy, culture and the media.Key Words: Corporate Social Responsibility, Activism, Public Relations.
