Özet

This study analyzes one of the greatest names of the 20th century Islamic revival movements, Sayyid Qutb (1906-1966) along the lines with his jâhiliyyah-hâkimiyyah dualism that he offers within the context of an encounter between Islam and the West. In this context, his action oriented method of hijrah (emigration) from the real to the ideal is also examined. In the Introduction of the study, general information is given about Qutb's biography and his literary personality, which is the main source of his powerful expression prevalent in his works. In the First Chapter, the politics and social events of Egypt during his time that shaped, to a great extent, his thoughts are evaluated. The traditional perception of the term jahiliyya is also presented here. For all that, the case of how these concepts are linked by the thinker with the current organization of the social institutions forms the Second Chapter; thus, it is the main discussion part of the study. In the end, these discussions about this great thinker take us to the following methodic prolegomena: A holistic concept of religion dependent upon a strong concept of ulûhiyyah; an approach of repudiating-but-not-apostatizing; and a method conceiving the social through the individual. Keywords: Qutb, Jâhiliyyah, Hâkimiyyah, Ulûhiyyah, Holistic Understanding, Repudiating-but-not-Apostatizing Approach.
