The study was carried out to breeding by selection of local ?Yomra? and ?Demir? apple types (Malus communis L.) grown in Arsin and Yomra provinces in Trabzon. In this study, pomological evaluation and some chemical analyses have been carried out over local apple types investigated in 2007-2008 years. ?Weighted Rankit? method has been used in evaluating obtained data to detect high quality apples in local types. The fruit weight in ?Yomra? apple types changed between 72,19 g (61YO15) - 113,39 g (61YO22); fruit diameter 56,55 mm (61YO16) - 68,38 mm (61YO12), fruit length 49,58 mm (61YO15) - 60,24 mm (61YO12), average seed number 0,0 - 2,2, firmness 5,60 lb (61YO52) - 9,30 lb (61YO23), total soluble solid content % 10,55 (61YO12) - % 15,00 (61YO42), titreable acid content (malic acid) % 3,58 (61YO28) - % 8,20 (61YO17). The fruit weight in ?Demir? apple type is found as; 80,03 g (61DE44) - 123,11 g (61DE18), fruit diameter is found as; 59,67 mm (61DE42) - 70,32 mm (61DE18), fruit height is found as; 46,8 mm (61DE33) - 55,45 mm (61DE01), average seed number is found as; 1,7 - 5,5, firmness is found as; 5,85 lb - 9,60 lb, soluble solid content is found as; % 12,65 (61DE30) % 15,25 (61DE20), titreable acid content is found as; % 6,80 (61DE44) - % 11,83. As a result of this study, 61YO41, 61YO42 and 61YO01 numbered types in ?Yomra? apple and 61DE36, 61DE20 and 61DE13 numbered types in ?Demir? apple are evaluated as promising types at the end of the evaluations for 44 ?Yomra? and 41 ?Demir? apples which show partial alternate bearing. 61YO05 ve 61YO06 numbered types in ?Yomra? apple and 61DE01 and 61DE12 numbered types in ?Demir? apple are also evaluated as promising at the end of the evaluations for 10 ?Yomra? and 3 ?Demir? apples which show alternate bearing, and these promising types may recommended for further studies.

Değerlendirilen ?Yomra? elması tipine ait meyve ağırlığı; 72,19 g (61YO15) - 113,39 g (61YO22), meyve çapı; 56,55 mm (61YO16) - 68,38 mm (61YO12), meyve boyu; 49,58 mm (61YO15) - 60,24 mm (61YO12), ortalama çekirdek sayısı; 0,0 - 2,2, meyve eti sertliği; 5,60 lb (61YO52) - 9,30 lb (61YO23), suda çözünebilen kuru madde miktarı; % 10,55 (61YO12) - % 15,00 (61YO42), titre edilebilir asitlik; % 3,58 (61YO28) - % 8,20 (61YO17) olarak belirlenmiştir.
