The aim of this study is to examine the factors that affect the senior high school students? opinions and attitudes towards The Student Selection and Placement System (SSPS) in higher education. This study was done in frame of correlational research model. The sample of this study consists of last grade students studying in 15 public high schools in the Metropolitan Municipality of Ankara for the 2009-2010 academic year. While selecting the schools, student achievement ranking in the field of Equal Weight (EW) score points in the 2009 Student Selection and Placement Exam (SSPE) was taken into consideration. In this research, the data was collected by using ?Attitude Scale Towards Student Selection Exam? developed by Ekici (2005) and ?Questionnaire of Students? Own Characteristics? developed by researcher. The real application of the scale and the questionnaire was conducted with 1116 students. For the analysis of the research data, some quantitative methods like stepwise multiple regression analysis, frequency, and qualitative methods like content analysis were used.As a result of the quantitative analysis, it was found that the variables like the students? two-phased exam satisfaction, their solving more problems than others, their attendance to private courses, their parents? studying minimum high school predict the students? attitude scores towards the student selection system in higher education. As a result of qualitative analysis, it was seen that the two-phased student selection exam affected the students? opinions in a negative way. At the same time, the students indicated their opinions about if the two-phased exam decreased, increased or it did not make any change in their studying desire, their self-confidence about being successful in the exam, their expectations from the exam or their opinions about using what was learned during the lessons in the exam. Also, it was revealed that the students highly trust in themselves with entering a higher education programme. In addition to this, they noted that their parents? expectation level and support about their entering a higher education programme were also high. While most of the students indicated that going to private courses increased their success to a medium or a large extent, again a significant part of them indicated that going to private courses did not increase their success in a medium and low level. The students? opinions about working methods they used during preparing for the exam were stated under the topics ?knowing effective working methods? and ?solving problems intended for only the exam?.This study comprises of five sections. The first section includes the relevant literature, research problem, the purpose and the importance of the study. The second section includes the relevant researches conducted in inside and outside Turkey. The third section includes the research model, the population and the sample, the tools used to obtain data, the data collection and the data analysis. Bu araştırmada, lise son sınıf öğrencilerinin yükseköğretime öğrenci seçme sistemine ilişkin görüşleri ve tutumlarını etkileyen faktörlerin neler olduğunun belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır.Korelasyonel araştırma modeli niteliğinde olan bu araştırmanın örneklemini, 2009-2010 eğitim-öğretim yılı, Ankara ili Büyükşehir Belediyesi sınırları içindeki genel liseler evreninden seçilen 15 resmi lisenin son sınıfında okuyan öğrenciler oluşturmaktadır. Uygulama yapılacak okullar seçilirken 2009 yılında yapılan Öğrenci Seçme ve Yerleştirme Sınavı (ÖSYS)'nda Eşit Ağırlıklı (EA) puan türündeki başarı puanları sıralaması dikkate alınmıştır. Araştırmada, Ekici (2005)'in geliştirdiği ?Öğrenci Seçme Sınavına Yönelik Tutum Ölçeği? ile araştırmacının geliştirdiği ?Öğrenci Anketi? kullanılmıştır.
