The flora and the vegetation of Şile (Istanbul) were found out in this study that carriedout between 2003 and 2006.The study area is about 736 km2 and it is located within A2(A) square. The end of thestudy, totally 440 taxa that belonging to 256 genera and 79 families were found out. Three ofthese taxa belong to Pteridophyta whilst 437 taxa belong to the Spermatophyta groups. Twotaxa are Gymnospermae members whilst 435 taxa are Angiospermae members which arebelong to Spermatophyta. 365 taxa are within Magnoliopsida / Dicotyledoneae whilst 70 taxaare within Liliopsida / Monocotyledoneae among the Angiospermae members. The familiesthat represent with the most taxa are fixed as follows: Fabaceae 59 (13.4%), Poaceae46 (10.5%), Asteraceae 45 (10.2%), Lamiaceae 33 (7.5% ) ve Rosaceae 25(5.7%). The numbers of the endemic taxa are seven. In the vegetational part of the study that carried out by means of the BRAUN-BLANQUET method, it is found that the vegetation of the area consists of three types. Theforest vegetation, shrub vegetation and littorale vegetation. The first vegetation consist oftwo associations: Carpinus orientalis-Erica arborea Quézel, Barbéro, Akman, 1980 andFago orientalis- Quercetum ibericae Sezer & Yarci Ass. Nov.; the shrub vegetationconsists of Phillyrea latifolia-Laurus nobilis Quezel, Barbéro, Akman, 1980 association.Thelittorale vegetation consists of Cakilo euxinae-Salsoletum ruthenicae Vicherek 1971association. Fago orientalis- Quercetum ibericae Sezer & Yarci Ass. Nov. association isnew fort he scientific world. The syntaxonomical analysis of the grassland vegetation was notable to carry out because of the anthropogenic degenerations.

Fago orientalis- Quercetum ibericae Sezer & Yarci Ass.
