According to the official rules of Sublime Porte, they could not catch up with the preparations for the ceremony before the feast came, so the acceptance of Repnin was delayed until the end of the sacrifice festival. In fact, the Turks were acting slowly and trying to change the conditions in the Küçük Kaynarca Treaty with the help of their intermediaries. At the end of October, Sublime Porte sent lots of suggestions for changes in the conditions of the peace treaty. For Repnin, any amendments to the treaty ceased to be relevant so that the existing tough relations would not get worse. When he saw Ambassador, in order to keep him waiting, Porte gave up his acceptance without delaying. On the 28th of November, N. V. Repnin officially visited the vizier. 1775 yılında Çariçe II. Katerina, N. V. Repnin'i Osmanlı İmparatorluğu'na fevkalâde büyükelçi olarak tayin etmiş ve elçiliğin asıl misyonunu iki ülke arasındaki ilişkileri kuvvetlendirmek şeklinde belirlemişti. Repnin 1775 yılının ilk aylarında gideceği seyahatın planını çiziyor, kendisiyle birlikte görev yapacak ve refakat edecek kişileri seçiyordu. Eylül'ün son günlerinde Ayastefanos'a (Yeşilköy)'e geldi, 3 Ekim'de ise büyükelçiliğin müşir Bâbıâlî'ye büyükelçiliğin gelişi hakkında haber verdi. 5 Ekim'de Repnin İstanbul'a Edirnekapısı'ndan giriş yaptı. Knez'in maiyeti ise beş yüz kişiden oluşan ekipti. Sultân I. Abdülhamid için hediyelerin Saray'a gönderilmesi 30 Kasım'da idi. Büyükelçi Repnin'in Sultân I. Abdülhamid (1774-1789) tarafından kabûlü ve Çariçe'nin mektûbunu takdimi 1 Aralık 1775'dedir. Sultân tarafından kabûlünü temin ederek büyükelçi asıl amacına ulaşmış bulunuyordu. büyükelçinin dönüş yolculuğuna çıkması 13 Nisanda 1776'dadır.
