The aim of this study is to investigate to what extent an individual?s environment in which he/she lived, the socio-economic situation, gender and environmental conditions that determine the attitude of father-mother toward the person are effective in the individual?s life style determination. The samples of the study consist of 570 undergraduate students 251 of which were female studying in 9 faculties at Ataturk University in 2010-2011 academic year.In the current study, the life styles inventories developed by Kern (1982) and adapted into Turkish by the researcher, and father-mother attitude inventory developed by Kuzgun (1972), and finally a background form developed by the researcher were used. The findings suggest that in case individuals perceive their fathers and mothers as democratic then this causes individuals to have a tendency of being more restrictive and perfectionist, or when they perceive their fathers and mothers as authoritative , this leads to be less ambitious but more tolerable toward life.It is also seen that while the life styles of people in villages are self-esteem and expectation centered, the life styles of people in towns tend to be restrictive and perfectionist, and the people living in cities tend to be more restrictive and perfectionist in addition to the adoption of the satisfaction category. The findings also show that people with high socioeconomic conditions appear to have more restrictive and perfectionist life style, and people with low socio-economic level adopt self-esteem, expectations and satisfaction centered life styles.Female subjects appear to be more restrictive and perfectionist though male subjects tend to be more tolerable and to adopt satisfaction, expectations and self esteem categories in their life styles. Results show that the life styles of the university students predicts father-mother attitude, socio-economic status of the childhood and gender.

Bu çalışmanın amacı; bireyin yaşam stillerini belirlemede bireyin çocukluğunu geçirdiği yer, sosyo ekonomik durumu, cinsiyeti ve ana babasının bireye karşı tutumunu oluşturan çevresel şartların bireyin yaşam stilini oluşturmada ne derece etkili olduğunu incelemektir.Araştırmanın örneklemini 2010-2011 ögretim yılında Atatürk Üniversitesi'nin 9 fakültesine devam eden 251'i kız, 319'u erkek olmak üzere toplam 570 ögrenci oluşturmaktadır.
