The performancecharacteristic of the cutter are affected by a range of factors. The principal factors that requireconsideration in predicting cutting rates are the cutter operating parameters. In this study, a variety ofrock types (six type beige marble, two types of andesite, a basalt and a tuff) were cut with a 400 mmdiameter of diamond disc cutter using fully instrumental and automatic computer controlled cuttingrig at different cutting speed and cutting depth. Down cutting method is applied in experimental test.Particular feed rate (0.4, 0.5, 0.6, 0.7, 0.8 m/min), depth of cutting (10, 30, 50, 70, 90 mm) andperipheral speed (60, 65, 70, 75, 80 m/sec) were used in cutting tests. Two of these operatingparameters of the cutters are hold constant while the other parameter is changed for all type of rocksduring the experimental study. Vertical and horizontal forces with power were measured normal, cutting and tangential forces with specific energy were calculated. At the same time the SpecificCutting Energy (SEcut) is measured by using a Power Analyzer. SEcut is a very significant measure ofcutting performance. It is directly compatible with cost per meter, because it relates to the amount ofenergy required to cut rock. SEcut can also be used to quantity the efficiency of rock workingprocesses such as drilling, cutting, excavation, grinding and indicate cutter conditions, rock strengthand hardness during cutting. The relationship of the operating parameters with each other weredetermined. The effects of cutting direction, using different types of cutter, physical, textural, mechanical, chemical and intact properties of rock on specific energy were also examined. The relationship of the SEcut with operating parameters of sawblade and rock properties wasestablished. Multi-variable linear regression analysis was then used to develop predictive models ofSEcut from the rock property data. The models have been verified by statistical tests. The ability of thetechnique to provide a mathematical characterization of the performance of new cutting sawblades inspecific rocks may prove to value to cutter manufacturers and users.Circular diamond saw of wear is affected by a range of factors. However, the principalfactors that require consideration in predicting wear rates are the type of diamond saw, the sawoperating parameters and the characteristics of the cut rock. A single rock property index is not asufficient basis for predicting wear performance. Wear (weight loss and height loss) of saw weremeasured after a series of test in each rock type. The wear of saws can take many forms, however, themost common wear mechanism operating on saws during the rock cutting is abrasion, impact loadingand impact fatigue and thermal shock also accelerates the wear of saws.Key Words: Diamond Saw Properties, Cutting Specific Energy, Rock Characteristics,Statistical Modeling, Wear.2.
