In this thesis, Al doped ZnO (AZO) thin films were grown on to the p-type, Si, GaAs, and Ge substrates by RF magnetron sputtering system with different thicknesses. The structural, electrical, morphological and optical properties of AZO films were analyzed. The structural, optical and morphological properties of the samples were analyzed by X-ray diffraction (XRD), photoluminescence (PL), and atomic force microscopy (AFM) methods. From XRD results, AZO films have been in to the hexagonal crystal geometry and the polycrystalline crystal structure which is perpendicular to c-plane. It was observed that grain sizes of the AZO films increased with increasing film thickness from the analysis of the XRD and AFM patterns. The band gap energies of the AZO films were obtained band to band, about 3.3 eV from the optical analysis. Two defect levels which were around 3.03 eV arises from zinc defects and around 2.4 – 2.54 eV arises from oxygen vacancy defects were determined at all samples. The fabrication processes which include the lithography and metallization processes were done to examine the photovoltaic sensitivity of p-n junction AZO/Si, GaAs, and Ge samples. The electrical properties of the fabricated p-n junction AZO samples were obtained from the Current-Voltage (I-V) measurements. The photovoltaic behaviors of the fabricated p-n junction AZO samples were determined as having low efficiency.

Bu tez çalışmasında, p-tipi, Si, GaAs ve Ge alttaşlar üzerine farklı kalınlıklarda Al katkılı ZnO (AZO) ince filmler RF magnetron püskürtme yöntemi ile büyütüldü. Oluşturulan filmlerin yapısal, elektriksel, morfolojik ve optik özellikleri analiz edildi. Numunelerin yapısal, optik ve morfolojik özellikleri X-ışını kırınımı (XRD), fotolüminesans (FL) ve atomik kuvvet mikroskobu (AKM) yöntemleri ile analiz edildi. Yapılan karakterizasyonlar sonucunda, AZO filmlerin hegzagonal kristal geometrisine ve c-düzlemine dik olacak şekilde polikristal kristal yapısına sahip olduğu belirlendi. XRD ve AKM desenlerinin analizinden, AZO filmlerindeki parçacık büyüklüklerinin artan film kalınlığı ile arttığı gözlendi. Optik analizler ile AZO filmlerinin banttan-banda yasak enerji aralıklarının 3.3 eV civarında olduğu görüldü. Ayrıca tüm örneklerde çinko kusurlarından kaynaklı 3.03 eV civarında ve oksijen boşluklarından kaynaklanan 2.4-2.54 eV civarında kusur seviyeleri olduğu belirlendi. p-n eklem AZO/Si, GaAs ve Ge yapılarının fotovoltaik duyarlılıklarının incelenmesi amacı ile litografi ve metalizasyon işlemlerini içeren hücre fabrikasyonları yapıldı. Fabrikasyonu tamamlanan hücrelerinin elektriksel özellikleri akım-voltaj (I-V) ölçümleri ile belirlendi. Oluşturulan yapıların düşük verimlilikte fotovoltaik özellikleri belirlendi.
