ABSTACT This thesis aim is to analyze the complex relationship between technology and gender, and tries to explain how women are isolated from the design process of technology. In addition, the affect of this isolation on gender issues in the areas of production and consumption is discussed in this thesis. At the same time, the affects of gender-segregated labor market and the consumer identity that is determined by gender on the design process of technology are also analyzed within this study. In summary, the mutual relation between technology and patriarchal system is studied in the areas of design and usage of technology. The main focus of the study is the question of whether technology increases the power of a small group of male labor that has the capacity to affect the design process of technology over other labor and women. So the questions of what kind of power can technology provide, how technology can improve the power of preeminent class and male dominance in society and why this important tool of power is under the control of men are discussed in the study. After the discussion about the factors, which determine the design process of technology, the study examines the relation between the gender and the usage of technology. The usage of technology is analyzed under two subsections: Technology used in production and technology in consumption. Keywords: Women, Technology, Gender, Design of Technology, Technology in Production, Household Technologies, Reproduction Technologies.
