Thesis is made up of six chapters. In the first chapter, physical conditions supporting the establishment and development of the city have been studied. Among these conditions, convenient climate and topography conditions are the most significant features. After 1980s, the existence of long coast in Silivri, has been the most important physical factor for the development of tourizm in this region. In the second chapter, the city history has been examined. Being on the ''Via Military'' at past and today on the D100 high way is another factor for the development of city. While Silivri was a front castle to Istanbul during the Byzantium period, it used to be the supply point between the old capital Edirne and Istanbul in the Ottoman period. As to the third chapter, general features of population have been studied. Being on a running location due to its geographical position gives Silivri a moving population. As the population increased with the arrival of immigrants from Balkan Wars, it decreased in The Second World War. However, the breaking point for the Silivri population took place with the increasing second housing in 1980s. In the fourth chapter, settlement features have been assessed and some issues have been examined such as residence features of traditional Silivri houses and current houses and district of Silivri . In the light of this assessment, there is no well-ordered and one-type city and road plan in Silivri. In the fifth chapter, functions giving a city identity to a place have been evaluated. Among these, there is no doubt the most important functions are agriculture and tourizm. Because, espacially tourizm function has attracted a population and accordingly functions of trade, education and health have been obtained. As to the last chapter, an examination has been done for the current city problems and sloution suggestions.Key Words: Urban Geography, Silivri, Districts of İstanbul.
