Jordan is a country which is so poor with regard to natural sources with an area of 92.300km² 75% of which is covered with deserts. With respect to natural sources the country is composed of three main areas which are namely Jordan Valley, plateau field, and desert area. Jordan Valley area includes the lowland in the west which was formed by the River Jordan, Dead Sea and the Valley Araba in the south. This area is the lowest region of the country with its altitude lower from the sea level. Owing to the fact that the precipitation rates are low, River Jordan and its distributaries are used for agricultural irrigation in the alluvial lowland which is in the south. In spite of this the agricultural production of the country doesn't meet the requirements. Plateau area is the hilliest and the rainy area of the country. Its climate which is cooler and wetter compared to the other regions has caused the dense population here. The desert area is the region with the largest surface. The population is so low in this area because of the fact that the rain rates are so low and the heat average is so high. The country's poor of natural sources thus its petroleum production and agricultural production don't meet the requirements. Its most important natural source is phosphate. Since it is located at a junction point in the Middle East, trade has also improved here.Another sector that has improved in this country is tourism. The country who appreciates its historical, cultural and natural beauties was visited by over seven million tourists in 2009. And the tourism income reached (3 000 000)$ three million dollars in the same year. Its service quality has been improving and as a result of this the number of the tourists visiting the country and the tourism income has been rising steadily. The variation in the natural and cultural sources of the country has caused rich tourism types. Providing sacred places for the three religions has been effective in improving the belief tourism in the country. Since historical trade routes were located here, many civilizations have prevailed and the ancient cities like Petra, Jerash, Pella were established here. Particularly Petra which was chosen to be one of the Seven Wonders of the World in 2006 is the tourism center in the country. As a result of the the Dead Sea's water and mud and the thermal sources around the sea, the health tourism has also improved in that region. Besides nature tourism which has gained great importance in the world has improved in this country as well and the nature protection areas existing for years are opening for tourism in the name of nature tourism. The most peculiar factor affecting tourism in the country is the battles and war going on in the Middle East. The country's tourism has also been affected in a negative way from time to time because of the battles and war continuing here. Yet, the peace policy implemented by the country has lessened this negative effect to the lowest level. Thanks to the peace policy it has stayed away from the war and has become a country where tourists from all over the world can come and stay safely. With the rising service quality and the investments in this field, the country is going to improve its tourism incomes in the coming years.
