Objective: The purpose of this research is to determine the motivation and control reinforcement levels of the athletes in the national sailing team. The study also aims to show the relationship between the specified variables.Universe and Method: This research is based on a survey conducted on 35 athletes from the national sailing team. Out of these 35 athletes, 25 are males and 10 are females. 22 of them are university students and 13 are high school students. The athletes are grouped for sailing according to their ages and body weights. 12 of them are from the 470 category, 2 of them are from the 420 category, and the remaining 20 of them are from the Laser category. As for years of experience in doing sports, 11 of them have been doing sports for 1-7 years, 20 of them have been doing sports for 8-15 years, and 4 of them have been doing sports for 16-23 years. As a tool of collecting data, surveying has been used, and descriptive research model has been applied. The research makes use of two surveys. The scale used in the first survey is known as The Generalized Expectancies for Internal vs. External Control of Reinforcement, and it was developed by Rotter in 1966. Rotter control reinforcement survey aims to measure athletes' internality and externality levels and their control levels of internal or external forces. The scale is composed of 29 items. 6 out of 29 items are used as fillers in order to conceal the real purpose; therefore, they are not included in calculations. The remaining 23 items are composed of optional choice expressions belonging to internal and external beliefs. Each item has a two-optioned scale where the survey takers have to choose the best expressions fitting themselves. All items include an `a` and a `b` option. The second survey used in the research is called The Sports Motivation, and it was developed by Pelletier, Fortier, Vallerand, Tucson, Briere and Blais in 1995. It is composed of 28 items. The items have 7-scaled numerical values. In this survey, athletes' motivation level is measured. The data are demographically analysed, and a correlation test is carried out. In the research an answer is pursued to the question, `Is there a meaningful relationship between the motivation and control reinforcement levels of the athletes in the national sailing team?`Findings: The motivation levels of the athletes that took part in the survey are determined, and meaningful differences have been found as a result of a demographical study on age, education, sailing group category and sports history (P<0,05). However, when athletes' control reinforcement levels are determined, no meaningful difference is found as a result of a demographical study on age, education, sailing group category and sports history (P>0,05).Conclusion: It is concluded as a result of the findings of the research that there is a meaningful relationship between the motivation and control reinforcement levels of the athletes in the national sailing team.Key Words: Sailor, Sailing, Motivation in Sports, Control Reinforcement.

İngilizce adı, Generalized Expectancies for Internal vs. External Control of Reinforcement'dır. İngilizce adı, The Sports Motivation'dır.
