The results obtained from different coding systems were evaluated for inclusion of categorical variables in the model by considering continuous and categorical variables together for lactation milk yield in İvesi sheep. Also in this study; the determination of the best model defining the lactation curve of İvesi sheep, the defining lactation curve with the determined model and then the estimated lactation milk yields (TLSV) were calculated by using the model parameters for individual ewe. The factors affecting the observed lactation milk yield (LSV), estimated lactation milk yield (TLSV) and model parameters were investigated. The lactation milk yield was obtained as 111,47 ± 3,504 kg and the lactation period was found as 133,70 ± 1,714 days. In this study, it was determined that the best model was the forth degree legendre polynomial (LEG4) model when the lactation curves of İvesi sheep used in this study were evaluated considering the parameters HO, R2 and r.When all variables are included in the study and dummy and effect coding methods are used for age, lactation period, daily average milk yield, type of birth and three age group effects were found statistically significant. In addition, when using deviation coding for age; the effects of lactation period and daily average milk yield as well as constant term were found statistically significant. Similarly, when forward and backward difference codding's are used, the negative effect of lactation period and daily average milk yield as well as three age group were also found statistically significant. The use of coding systems in introducing the categorical variables together with the continuous variables is of great advantage. According to the purpose of determining the effects of the levels of categorical variables, different coding systems have been used and accordingly some differences have occurred in the interpretation of the obtained coefficients. Therefore, the purpose of determining the effects of categorical variables should be clearly defined beforehand and the use of the appropriate coding system is of great importance. As the different coding systems used in the regression analysis are discussed in detail and the results of using these coding systems in animal husbandry field are interpreted, it is expected that the study will make significant contributions to the researchers who would like to conduct research on the subject in the future.
