İç Savaş öncesindeki durumu yansıtması için Absalom, Absalom!, sonrasındaki durumu yansıtması içinde The Sound and the Fury seçilmiştir. ABSTRACT This study deals with the Southern landowners' plantation life both during the antebellum era until the outbreak of the American Civil War in 1861, and with their loss of social and economic order due to the defeat and their following struggle to recapture the old Southern system during the post-bellum era following the close of the war in 1865 and lasting well into the first quarter of the 20th century. In the antebellum South the planters constituted the ruling class, having set the dream of the ideal plantation life with their lifestyle to the poor farmers. This ruling class was bitterly deprived of their powerful social and economic position in the post-bellum South. In order to portray the South in both eras from a literary point of view two novels, Absalom, Absalom! and The Sound and the Fury by William Faulkner, a Southerner and a writer, are selected. in.
