The aim of this study is to explore how we can build cities that are safer, more effective in the future but that can also protect human rights. Domains of smart cities concept (transportation, environment, energy, health etc.) are considered as urban systems. The aim of study is to figure out the role of intelligent transportation systems in future cities where artificial intelligence will penetrate future urban life. Within this perspective, the legal, social and ethical aspects addressing the cities of the future are also examined. The scope of study is an intersection of three challenges: (i) Artificial intelligence; (ii) Personel data & privacy; and (iii) the future of transportation in future digital cities. A comprehensive literature review and expert views are utilised as method of study. The result of the study is that concepts such as artificial intelligence, big data, IoT will take over the existing functions of intelligent transportation systems in digital cities and take on a role to feed or even dominate other urban systems. The future of transportation will be fully integrated with smart justice, smart health and other domains of smart cities (via functions like face recognition, crime prevention, emergency services). Accordingly, an AI-based Integrated Urban Command-Control Architectural Model has been constructed for future cities, of which is novel and encapsulating management model. It has also been found to deal with personal data & privacy challenge, which is a critical topic of research. The result is a trade-off between privacy concerns and the potential for public good. `Urban Big-Data Management Platform`, which proposes the use of an alternative backup system, will retain personality rights by anonymizing all types of commercial-specific data as needed.
