Ayancık is a district of the province of Sinop, located at the Western Blac Sea Part of the Black Sea geographical region. In this study as a research region besides Ayancık we took important places, which are closer to border of Ayancık, in to the research.Ayancık became one of the first industry towns of the Republic after the setting of the Zingal TAŞ Limber Factory in 1929 at the center of the province. After the factory was closed down, the town became economically reduced so a big outward migration existed. Economic wayouts are searched for at the town which has lots its industrial function. The aim of this work is to determine the eco-tourism potentials of Ayancık and its perimeter, to suggest ways to actuate this potential and evaluate the potential of eco-tourism which is a pioneer element of rural areas' development. The tourism potential of a region is consisted of that region's natural, cultural and historical values. Among those sources, coastal areas were the most important ones according to the previous trends, however the viewpoint of the people on tourism has been changing recently. The people that require to get drawn away from the suffocating environment of the cities which developed by industrialization, are missing the natural areas. The ones who like to escape from the rapid city life are preferring to go to natural, quiet places instead of crowded beaches. Eco-tourism, a common-sensical and a responsible type of tourism, which is performed on the natural areas increases the wellfare of the local community, is seemed to be the best tourism choice because it is touristic activity that aims the achievement and continuity of tourism facilities without destructing the natural and cultural sources and also because of saving the ecological structure and economical wealth and transfer them through the forthcoming generations. In Ayancık you can do many eco-tourism activies such as trekking (İnaltı Canyon), do cave exploration (İnaltı Cave), hunting tourism (Zindan and Kepez Hunting Areas), biodiversity (Zindan and Çangal Mountains), camping and caravan tourism (Gebelit Bay, Kuğuyalısı, Akgöl, Saray Lake), yatching tourism (Çaylıoğlu Harbour), culture tourism ( linen weaving), industrial heritage tourism (The industrial ruins of Zingal TAŞ) and agrotourism (the production of linen and honey). To sum up, Ayancık is a district that has significant sources of eco-tourism. If the natural beauties, cultural wealth and industrial heritage of Ayancık will be used in the right way, there will be a economical mobility at the region. By the help of eco-tourism facilities new employment oppurtunities fort he local people will occure and natural and cultural sources will be protected.Key words: Sinop, Ayancık, tourism, industrial heritage.
