The aim of the study is to investigate the stopover ecologies of Sylvia atricapilla, S. borin, S. communis, S. curruca, S. melanocephala and S. nisoria which stay in the Kızılırmak Delta, Samsun both during spring and autumn migrations. Between years 2002 and 2011 during which the study was carried out, a total of 2483 birds in spring and 16.809 birds in autumn were ringed. Of the birds ringed in spring, 47.08% were S. atricapilla, 26.46% were S. borin, 11.12% were S. communis, 9.02% were S. melanocephala, 4.06% were S. nisoria and 2.26% were S. curruca. Of the birds ringed in autumn, 43.52% were S. borin, 41.67% were S. atricapilla, 7.16% were S. communis, 4.26% were S. curruca, 2.09% were S. melanocephala and 1.30% were S. nisoria. In autumn 2010 and spring 2011 radio tranmistters were used to find out stopover durations. S. atricapilla stopover was 7.16 days in autumn, and 8.66 days in spring, S. borin stopover duration was 6.57 days in autumn and 6.14 days in spring, and S. nisoria stopover duration was 8.60 days in autumn, and 7.66 days in spring. During the spring stopover the body mass was highest with 8.40% in S. communis and lowest with 2.22% in S. borin;, whereas in autumn the highest was in S. borin with 16.32% and the lowest was in S. melanocephala with 4.98%.596 stomach contents from the six Sylvia species were examined during 2010-2011 spring and autumn seasons. Contents yielded mostly animal remains in autumn, while mostly plant remains were found in spring. Identifyable fruits were Rubus sp., Ficus carica, Rhamnus sp., Vitis sp., Solanum dulcamara, Dioscorea communis, Elaeagnus rhamnoides, and Laurus nobilis, whereas identifyable invertebrates, included insects from the orders Coleoptera, Dermaptera, Diptera, Hemiptera, Hymenoptera, Lepidoptera, Neuroptera, Odonata, and Ortoptera and spiders from the order Araneae, and snails of the phylum Mollusca.
