The main subject of this MA thesis is to investigate economic growth theories, endogenousgrowth theories and especially the role of human capital in these theories. This study consist of 4 chapters. In the first chapter, concepts and characteristics of the economicgrowth have been described. In the 2. chapter, traditional growth theories have been explainedtheoretically. In the 3. chapter, endogenous growth theories which are the main subject of thisstudy have been searched. After explaining the effects of human capital and technologicaldevelopments to the economic growth in this model, the role of government in the growththeories has been examined. In the 4. chapter, Turkish economic case has been studied in theframework of endogenous growth theory.Traditional growth models are insufficient to describe the long term growth of economies. Inrecent years, increasing importance of relation between human capital and technology has causedreconsideration of growth and development policies. Because it is not possible to explaineconomic wellbeing by physical capital itself, then, there should be some further analyticalstudies on the efficiency of human capital in production process as well as the role of physicalcapital, in determining the output level.Since the middle of 1980?s, the endogenous growth models claim that especially endogenoustechnological developments together with physical and human capitals have long term growtheffects in an economy. This study analyzes the intention of the endogenous growth theories bytaking into account the human capital phenomena. This analysis consist of the theorical frameand researches about Turkish economy.
