Ayvalık which is located on the coast of West Anatolia, turned into an important harbour settlement which came forward with its international trade and industry activities parallel to the Ottoman State's economic and political situation in the 19th century. Ayvalık which was a small town in the Ottoman borders and which did not have an important role until the 1770's started to be seen on the scene of history with the first years of the 1800 with its economy depending on olive oil and soap industry and trade during this time Ayvalık became the most active harbour of West Anatolian coast after İzmir harbour. These developments based on economy shaped the style of the city, the location of the structures where the activities of production and trade were formed with both their numbers and varieties composed the architectural identity of the city. Structure groups such as factories, workshops and storerooms which dominated the silhouette of the city were located in linear design throughout the coast in accordance with the harbour transportation. Shops, social and accommodation places with a trade identity were also located inside the market which was in relation with the harbour district. This study contains production structures such as factories (olive oil, soap, leather, flour), workshops, mills; structures arising from the production such as storerooms; structures having trade identity such as shops, coffeehouses, clubs, rest houses and banks that belonged to Ayvalık and its surroundings (Cunda, Küçükköy, Gümüşlü) were built in the 19th century and the first quarter of the 20th century and that were built at the last period of the Ottoman and that were of high importance for the economic history of the city. In this framework 205 structures which protected their architectural identities substantially were dealt with and these available structures were classified according to their functions and were evaluated with respect to their plans, architecture, materials and decorations. In architecture of particularly factories which took its place as the new building structure in city architecture and which were shaped by the developments of building techniques and material sector after the Industrial Revolution and in architecture of all other production and trade structures functional oriented approach is seen dominant. However the content of period's architecture and decoration styles influenced the facade patterns and elements, and decoration characteristics. From this perspective, since industrial and trade structures belonging to Ayvalık and its surroundings are both the source of the 19th century's architectural and stylistic understanding and the source of industrial heritage that reflects the Ottoman State's industrialization period, it is vital that this heritage is evaluated.Key words: Ayvalık, 19th Century, Industrial Trade Structures, Architecture, CityStyle, Olive Oil, The Ottoman State, Harbour.
