The phenomenon of the endowment (the Waqf ) is one of the civilization components, and it is prestigious institution that has played an important role in the economic, political, social and cultural levels of the Tunisian community. The aim of this work is to identify the importance of the endowment in Tunisia, it is an importance stems from the interdependence and overlap of economic, political, social and cultural issues and reflects the endowment universality and its centralization in the life of the individual, group and institutions. But it also reveals a new phenomenon which is the recruitment and exploitation of the endowments proceeds for not what has been established for, and that is contrary to the endowment principle, and deviate from the general objectives that the endowments established for. The attention of the endowments in Tunisia in the 19th century and the first half of the 20th century and make it an important topic for study, research and analysis does not only proceed what we have mentioned before, but also leads us to an urgent desire to reveal what missing or buried intentionally or unintentionally by researchers, historians and economists. And this old establishment is almost getting absent in the memory of the Tunisian society not only in public but also among intellectuals, and that due to the negligence of the endowment from one side and the stopping the endowments process after been nationalized by the impact of independency of Tunisia in 1956, and that is because the Tunisian Civil Law doesn?t contain any rule authorizing a citizen to endowment his properties for the benefit of a school, mosque or any other institution from other side. The subject interest is also such as the exhumation of the economic history of Tunisia. My subject in this research is the Tunisian Archive, where the facts become known through the reports, letters, statistical tables related to endowments and its proceeds, even we will also find out that we are following the endowment in its various forms throughout history of a small simple phenomena that become an institution in respect of the rule of the Ottoman Empire, and such huge association with its effective role in the economy, politics and in the Tunisian society to become a small marginalized declined role in the entry of the French colonization to Tunisia 1882- 1956. And thus the organization loses the leading role, and also will be ignored and disappeared from the memory of the society after it was an important and basic component of it.
