VII ABSTRACT DESIGN AND IMPLEMENTATION OF AN ONTOLOGY ENVIRONMENT FOR THE SEMANTIC WEB ÖZTÜRK, Övünç MSc in Computer Eng. Supervisor: Assist. Prof. Dr. Murat Osman Ünalır August 2004, 98 pages In this thesis, an ontology environment for Semantic Web is designed and a part of this design is implemented. The ontology environment supports collaborative and distributed ontology development. The elementary tasks for developing Semantic Web ontologies is also researched in the thesis. Ontology Web Language (OWL), which is the World Wide Web Consortium Recommendation, is the ontology language of the ontology development environment. The tasks in the ontology development environment will be offered as web services. By this way, ontology development environment will be reached from different platforms. The Ontology Development Environment is different from others in that it is designed specifically for requirements of Semantic Web and Web Services is integrated to the environment. Keywords: semantic web, ontology, ontology development environment.

Böylelikle, ontoloji geliştirme ortamına her platformdan erişilebilmektedir. Tez kapsammda tasarlanan ontoloji geliştirme ortamı, web servislerinin daha tasarım aşamasından ortama entegre olmasıyla ve anlamsal web gereksinimlerine uygun olarak tasarlanmasıyla diğer ontoloji geliştirme ortamlarından ayrılmaktadır. Anahtar sözcükler: anlamsal web, ontoloji, ontoloji geliştirme ortamı.
