Industrialization, which began in England at the end of the nineteenth century, was beginning of scientific and technological developments and at the same time created the seeking of a new economic balance in the world by changing the social thinking structure. Along with the process of industrialization starting first in Europe and spreading to all of the world, labor class emerged, so Europe escaped of the pressing structure of Feudalism. This situation led to the establishment of Nation-States, and prepared the possibbilities for emerging new ideas. Consequently, art is a big change point where the traditional ties between the artist and the viewer are questioned. The way of Impressionism that emerged at the beginning of the late 19th and early 20th centuries on the art scene has developed until the present day, interacting with the subsequent art movements. In contrast to atomic theory, the piece-whole phenomenon in art has manifested itself through Cubism. At the beginning of the twentieth century, Freud and Jung's psycho-analytical approaches, Max Planck's Quantum theory, Einstein's relativity theory, created a different perception of the mechanist universe by destroying human thoughts and arguments about the universe and nature. The ideological foundations of Marxism and Liberalism led to the emergence of theories of Socialist Reality and Critical Reality in art. Under the influence of the World Wars in Europe, the movements against Dada, Surrealism, Futurism, Expressionism, Abstract Expressionism and art movements have been shaped. The depressive concerns created by the war and oppressive regimes forced the artists to migrate to their new living quarters. The artists' shift from Paris to New York had become the opportunity to meet the new faces of modern art in the world.

Sanatçıların yönlerini Paris'ten New York'a değiştirmesiyle oluşan eksen kayması dünyanın modern sanatın yeni yüzleriyle tanışma fırsatı yakalamıştır.
