In this study, orbital period variations of selected 14 A and W-type contact binaries are investigated based on all published minima times and also observed ones. The O-C method was preferred to analysis the orbital period changes. We obtained 18 minima times for the target stars from the observations. A-type binaries DK Cyg, CV Cyg, XZ Leo, RZ Tau, V343 Ori, CN And and EQ Tau indicate secular period changes. The sources of the parabolic changes can be mass transfer between the components. In addition to secular changes, CN And and EQ Tau shows also cyclic variations, which can be explained by magnetic activity on the surfaces of the cool components. We have also analysed O-C data of 7 W-type contact binaries (BV Dra, EM Lac, BW Dra, FZ Ori, TY Boo, VW Boo ve RZ Com) and found that all of them show parabolic (four of them upward and the others downward) and periodic variations. While the parabolic variations were interpreted by mass transfer, Applegate model based on the magnetic cycles of the component with convective layers was preferred to explain the periodic changes. The results were compared with the literature and discussed. According the analysis of the orbital period changes of A and W-type contact binaries, most of them indicate secular changes and especially the most of W-type ones show also cyclic variations. Finally, it can be said that the magnetic cycles can be more plausible mechanism to explain cyclic changes in the orbital period changes of cool contact binaries rather than possible unseen components around the eclipsing pairs. Keywords: Stars, Eclipsing binar stars, Orbital period changes, Stars: DK Cyg, CV Cyg, XZ Leo, V343 Ori, RZ Tau, CN And, EQ Tau, BV Dra, EM Lac, BW Dra, FZ Ori, TY Boo, VW Boo, RZ Com.

Anahtar sözcükler: Yıldızlar, Çift yıldızlar, Dönem değişimi, Yıldızlar: DK Cyg, CV Cyg, XZ Leo, V343 Ori, RZ Tau, CN And, EQ Tau, BV Dra, EM Lac, BW Dra, FZ Ori, TY Boo, VW Boo, RZ Com vii.
