Graphene is the organization of carbon atoms in a two dimensional hexagonal lattice and due to this structure it has extraordinary features with great potential for various technological applications. As a result, graphene received immense attention among the researchers over the last decade. The purpose of this study is to examine how the annealing changes the reactivity of a sample that was prepared by using mechanical exfoliation technique on the 300 nm SiO2/Si substrate. Raman spectroscopy is used to determine the number of the graphene layers, its impurity charge doping state and the formation of graphene oxide. High resolution images of graphene is obtained using the contact mode atomic force microscopy (AFM). In our study, it is observed that impurity doping level of graphene changes significantly after annealing. In addition, contact mode atomic force microscopy imaging led to a more uniform distribution of the impurity doping level on the graphene surface. Unlike, un-annealed graphene samples, graphene oxide nano-domains are not observed in the subsequent wet chemical oxidation of these flakes. For intermediate oxidation durations used in this study, graphene oxide is observed only at the edges of the sample.

Karbon atomlarının altıgen yapıda dizilmiş (bal peteği örgü yapısı) iki boyutlu formuna tek katmanlı grafen denir ve bu yapısı sayesinde olağanüstü özelliklere sahiptir. Bu özellikler grafene farklı teknolojik uygulamalar için büyük bir potansiyel kazandırmaktadır. Son on yılda, bu üstün özellikleri sebebiyle grafen bilim insanları arasında çok büyük ilgi gören bir malzemedir. Bu araştırmada, amacımız tavlamanın, mekanik soyma yöntemi kullanılarak 300 nm kalınlığında SiO2/Si alttaş üzerinde hazırlanan tek katman grafenin reaktivitesini nasıl değiştirdiğini incelemekti. Raman spektroskopisi grafenlerin katman sayılarını, yük katkılanma durumunu ve grafen oksit oluşumunu belirlemek için kullanıldı. Kontak modda kullanılan atomik kuvvet mikroskobu (AFM) ile yüzeyin yüksek çözünürlüklü görüntüsü elde edildi. Çalışmamızda tavlama sonucunda grafen örneklerinin katkılanma durumunun önemli oranda değiştiği gözlenmiştir. Ayrıca, temas modunda AFM ile yüzey tarama işleminin yük katkılanma oranlarının yüzeyde daha düzgün dağılmasına sebep olduğu saptanmıştır. Tavlama sonrası yapılan oksitleme işleminde grafen yüzeyinde daha önce tavlanmamış örneklerde görülen grafenoksit nano bölgelerin oluşmadığı, örneklerin sadece kenardan içeri doğru oksitlendiği gözlenmiştir.
