My purpose was to examine the effects of chiropractic high-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) thoracic manipulations on parameters related to lung capacity such as forced expiratory volume (FEV1) and forced vital capacity (FVC) at the first second as a result of removing the limitations in amateur football players identified with asymptomatic dysfunctions in vertebral joints in thoracic spine. FEV1 and FVC values of the amateur football players included in the study were measured prior to application. FEV and FVC values were measured with a MiniSpir 2 model mobile spirometer. 40 amateur football players were included in the study. The group was divided into two groups with 20 participants in each group and players were selected randomly. One time chiropractic HVLA manipulation was applied on thoracic vertebrae 2-3-4 transverse processes of the experimental group (treatment group) with interior thoracic technique. One time sham manipulation was applied on the control group. FEV1 value increased from 4.8600 liters to 5.0733 liters in the chiropractic HVLA manipulation group. There was an increase of 0.2133 liter. FEV1 value increased from 5.1627 liters to 5.1680 liters in the sham manipulation group. There was an increase of 0.0053 liter. It is identified that experimental group has a statistically significant superiority over the control group in terms of FEV1 values (p<0,05). FVC value increased from 5.7233 liters to 6.0033 liters in chiropractic HVLA thoracic manipulation group. There was an increase of 0.28 liter. FVC score increased from 5.7760 liters to 5.7680 liters in sham manipulation group. The change in the score is 0.0020 liter. It was found that experimental group has a statististical superiority between the two group when FVC parameters were observed (p<0,05).
