In this research, it is aimed to compare the concepts of isar and altruism in moral philosophy and these concepts in terms of Islamic civilization and western culture. In line with the aim of the research, similarities and differences of isar and altruism concepts have been tried to be determined. The research consists of two parts. The main issues covered in the first part are as followings: Because isar is one of the moral virtues, firstly the definition of morality and moral works are emphasized and following that the relationship of moral-human nature (fıtrat), moral-mind, and moral-self desire (nefs); the relationship of isar with other virtues and generosity, how Islamic philosophers defined the concepts of isar in their works; and the dimensions and limitations of the isar were discussed. Besides, whether sobriety in virtues by Islamic moral philosophers is valid for isar or not, the relation with the concept of grant is also considered and its relationships with the concepts of endowment (ihsan) were examined. In the second part, the concept of altruism is taken up in terms of western culture. The philosophical, genetic, psycho-social and sociological foundations of altruism have been emphasized on the basis of the existing conceptual debates on alturism. In conclusion, evaluations regarding similarities and differences of these concepts, which are considered in terms of their fields, are presented. Moral values such as generosity, isar, modesty, and mercy can only emerge in the life of a society. The beauty of morality becomes visible when relationships are established with others. Islam is a religion that place importance to an individual, but it is not a religion based on individuality. Research has been carried out on different branches of science related to altruism in Western culture, and each field has given its own definitions. When examined in terms of Islam, it was seen that the definition of isar is rooted in divine inspiration. Because isar is an upper morality, the reward is defined accordingly, and Its reward is only expected from Allah.
