This research was aimed to determine the relationship between secondary school principals 'paternalistic leadership behaviors and political tactics according to teachers perception. The data was obtained from the surveys of 243 teachers from Gaziemir, İzmir in 2019 year. Demographic information distribution frequency-percentage was used in the analysis of the research data. In order to determine whether the data is distributed normally, the result of Skewness and Kurtosis coefficient was applied as parametric Independent Samples T test, One-Way Anova tests, nonparametric Mann- Whitney U test and Kruskal-Wallis tests. The Spearman Correlation test was used to determine the relationship between the paternalistic leadership behaviors of secondary school principals and political tactics. Regression analysis test was used to measure the relationship between the paternalistic leadership behaviors of secondary school principals and the political tactics. The strongest perception of the paternalistic leadership is the moral leadership dimension while the lowest perception is the perception of exploitative leadership according to the teachers. The strongest perception of political tactics is the coalition building dimension, while the lowest perception is the intimidation dimension. Paternalist leadership and its sub-dimensions showed a significant difference in working time at the last work place; There was no significant difference according to gender, marital status, age, total service period, income level and managerial status. There was no significant difference in political tactics and its sub-dimensions. When the relationship between the scales and their sub-dimensions were to be examined, It was concluded that there was a negative relationship between the scales of paternalistic leadership and political tactics. There is a weak positive correlation between paternalist leadership and political tactics scales. There is a moderate negative relationship between the benevolent leadership and moral leadership sub-dimensions of the paternalistic leadership scale and the political tactics scale. There is a moderately positive relationship between the authoritarian leadership and exploitative leadership sub-dimension of the paternalistic leadership scale and the political tactics scale. When t-test results of the significance of regression analysis were examined, it was found that benevolent leadership, moral leadership and exploitative leadership variables were significant (meaningful) predictors in terms of the effect of political tactics. Other variables do not have a significant effect.
