Özet

In this thesis, an investigation has been made into poetry, philosophy and the particular concepts which stand close to philosophy, namely the world views and the ideologies, as well as the dimensions of the relation between poetry and philosophy, and the philosophical elements in poetry so as to evaluate the subject of the thesis—`The Poetry–Philosophy Relations In the Modern Turkish Literature`. It was explained how the Turkish people and the Turkish literature encountered with modernity and finally, how the philosophical matters were handled in the modern Turkish poetry. With an indication that the notion of `wisdom` (`hikmet`) embraces `philosophy` as well as `poetry`, it is concluded in the thesis that by means of the philosophical element, poetry could attain the form of a `Poetry of Wisdom`. This conclusion is in connection with the research and reflects a critical point of view.Since the content and the activities of philosophy have universal characteristics while poetry has a specific cultural structure mainly because of the language in which it was written, it is argued that a synthesis of the national culture and the universality is made possible only through philosophical poetry—the poetry of wisdom.Key Words: Modernity, Poetry, Philosophy, Philosophical Poetry, Modern Turkish Literature, Existence, Wisdom.
