There are two hypotheses explaining the relationship between export and productivity. The first one is the self-selection hypothesis. This hypothesis states that the firms which are performing relatively more efficient, participates to export markets and stay in the markets permanently. The second one is learning by exporting hypothesis. This hypothesis express that the exporting firms gets more productive because of the methods which they have built from international contacts. The relation between export and labor productivity for Turkey's manufacturing industry sub-sectors during 2003-2017 is analyzed by Bootstrap Panel Granger Causality that is improved by Emirmahmutoğlu ve Köse (2011). The results show that the relationship between exports and productivity varies by sector. There is one-way causality from exports to labor productivity for the sectors manufacture of food products, manufacture of textiles, manufacture of wood and of products of wood and cork, except furniture; manufacture of articles of straw and plaiting materials, manufacture of rubber and plastic products and other manufacturing. On the other hand, there is one-way causality from labor productivity to exports for the sectors manufacture of tobacco products, manufacture of paper and paper products and manufacture of chemicals and chemical products. Also, there is two-way causality for the sectors manufacture of fabricated metal products, except machinery and equipment and manufacture of machinery and equipment nec. Finally, there is no causality for the other sectors.
