Planted trees hold a substantial amount of water inside their structure. That is why the treeshave to be dried until they reach the moisture content of the usage area before they becomeas a final product. Otherwise, various deformations could appear on the wood within theusage area (warping, twisting, throughabiliy etc.)In this study, edges timber with 3, 6, 12 cm thickness as well as one and double-side waneedged wood of eucalyptus timber with 6 cm were used. As a drying method, natural dryingtechnique under the conditions of Kahramanmaras Province located in MediterraneanRegion was preferred. Timbers were stacked in two different environments of outdoor andindoor areas. Drying started in summer period (effective drying) on June and the dryingprocess was followed for 1 year. The data obtained in the study was assessed in two periods. The first phase is effectivedrying period where timber moisture reaches the target content (12%), the second phase isthe period where actual result moisture is measured at the end of a one-year drying period. In effective drying period of open-air area, after 1.5 months later of the beginning of thedrying process 3 cm thickness timbers and 6 cm thickness one-side wane edged and after 2months, 6 cm thickness timbers and 6 cm thickness double-side wane edge timbers havereached to target moisture content. Moisture of 12 cm thickness timbers has not reachedthe target moisture and their moisture was just decreased to %16.8. Timbers dried in indoorarea, except the ones with 12 cm thickness, reached the target moister after 3.5 monthslater of the beginning of the drying process. 12 cm thickness timbers just dried up to thevalue of 19.7%.Drying quality of timbers were evaluated according to EDG (European Drying Group)recommendation. At the moment of the drying quality target result, when evaluated bymeans of the average moisture, while all the timbers hold the E class quality, according tothe evaluation during the end of the drying process, they were involved in different qualityclasses.Measurements made within the drying gradient evaluation, except the 12 cm timbers, therest had an E (exclusive) quality class. According to the collapse formation, wane edgedtimbers had less collapse compared to edged timbers. Surface cracks, internal cracks andend cracks were evaluated in all timbers and it was observed that as the thicknessincreased, height and depth of cracks were also increased.
