INVESTIGATION OF THE EFFECTS OF TEACHING THE STRUCTURE OF ATOM AND PERIODIC TABLE THROUGH TEAM GAME TOURNAMENT TECHNIQUE AND PRESENTATION METHOD ON THE SUCCESS OF STUDENTS AND SENSORY FEATURES (MASTER'S THESIS) EMİNE ÇİL MU?LA UNİVERSİTY INSTITUTE OF SCIENCE 2005 ABSTRACT In this study, the effects of teaching one of the science topics, The Structure of Atom and Periodic Table, thought in primary school in the seventh grade through Team Game Tournament Technique, a technique of Cooperative Learning Method, on the success of the students and sensory features are investigated. The study was carried out in 2004-2005 school terms in Atatürk and Menteşe primary schools in Kavaklıdere town of Muğla. 90 students from seventh grade participated in the study. This was an experimental study conducted in line with pre- and post-test model. In order to support this experimental method, documentation method, one of qualitative research methods, was also exploited. Participants were divided into two groups; one control and the other experimental, through un-biased distribution. The science topic in the control group, where there were 45 students, was thought through presentation. Throughout the teaching of the unit, overhead projector was drawn on. On the other hand, in the experimental group where thereXI were 45 students, in addition to the technique used in control group; Tournament Game was used once in a week for one class-hour after the presentation. As a data collecting device, a pre-test consisting of 20 multiple-choice questions was used. The content validity of the test was achieved with the help of the experts on test design. Three weeks after the topic was studied, the same test was administered once more to test the success. In the analysis of the quantitative data, SPSS 11 program was used. The data were analysed through comparative t-test. In examining the effects of The Team Game Tournament technique on the sensory features, students' compositions were drawn on. In the analysis of the qualitative data, content analysis and descriptive analysis were used. While in the experimental group, where the Team Game Tournament technique was used, 4.33 increase in the arithmetic mean was found, 1.53 increase was found in the control group. With regards to the sensory features, when the opinions of the students about relations among students, effective learning, supportive learning, the satisfaction taken from the lesson, and their preferences for the method used and other alternative methods were examined, the students in the experimental group were found to have more positive opinions than those of control group. VIII İLKÖĞRETİM FEN BİLGİSİ DERSİNDE ATOMUN YAPISI VE PERİYODİK ÇİZELGE KONUSUNUN TAKIM OYUN TURNUVA TEKNİĞİ VE SUNUŞ YÖNTEMİ İLE ÖĞRETİMİNİN ÖĞRENCİ BAŞARISI VE DUYUŞSAL ÖZELLİKLERİ ÜZERİNE ETKİSİNİN BELİRLENMESİ (YÜKSEK LİSANS TEZİ) EMİNE ÇİL MUĞLA ÜNİVERSİTESİ FEN BİLİMLERİ ENSTİTÜSÜ 2005 ÖZET Bu çalışmada, ilköğretim Fen Bilgisi dersinde yedinci sınıfta yer alan `Atomun Yapısı ve Periyodik Çizelge` konusunun İşbirlikli Öğrenme Yönteminin bir tekniği olan, Takım Oyun Turnuva Tekniği ile öğretiminin, öğrenci başarısı ve duyuşsal özellikleri üzerine etkileri araştırılmıştır. Araştırma 2004-2005 Eğitim Öğretim yılı Muğla ili Kavaklıdere ilçesi Atatürk İlköğretim Okulu ve Menteşe İlköğretim Okullarında yapılmıştır. Araştırmaya yedinci sınıfta bulunan 90 öğrenci katılmıştır. Araştırma ön test, son test modeline uygun deneysel bir çalışma olarak yapılmıştır. Deneysel deseni desteklemek adına nitel araştırma tekniklerinden doküman yöntemi kullanılmıştır. Gruplar, deneysel durumu kontrol etmek amacıyla, yansız atama yoluyla deney ve kontrol grubu olmak üzere ikiye ayrılmışta. 45 öğrencinin bulunduğu kontrol grubunda dersler sunuş yöntemi ile işlenmiştir. Ünite boyunca tepegöz saydamlarından yararlanılmıştır. 45 öğrencinin bulunduğu deney grubunda ise, kontrol grubundan farklı olarak konu sunumundan sonra, haftada bir ders saati Turnuva Oyunu düzenlenmiştir.IX Araştırmada veri toplama aracı olarak, uzman görüşleri alınarak kapsam geçerliliği sağlanmış ve 20 çoktan seçmeli sorudan oluşan ön test uygulanmıştır. Konu bitiminden üç hafta sonra ise, aynı test başarıyı ölçmek üzere tekrar uygulanmıştır. Nicel verilerin çözümünde, bilgisayar ortamında, SPSS 11 istatistik paket programı kullanılmıştır. Veriler karşılaştırmalı t testi ile analiz edilmiştir. Takım Oyun Turnuva tekniğinin duyuşsal özellikler üzerine etkilerinin belirlenmesinde ise öğrenci kompozisyonlarından yararlanılmıştır. Nitel verilerin çözümünde içerik analizi ve betimleyici çözümleme yapılmıştır. Takım Oyun Turnuva Tebliğinin uygulandığı deney grubu öğrencilerinin uygulama sonunda aritmetik ortalamalarında 4.33 'lük artış gerçekleşirken, kontrol grubu öğrencilerinin aritmetik ortalamalarındaki artış 1.53 olarak belirlenmiştir. Duyuşsal özelliklerde ise; arkadaşlık ilişkileri, etkili öğrenme, destekleyici öğrenme, derste doyuma ulaşma, uygulanan yöntemi başka yöntemlere tercih etmeye yönelik öğrenci görüşleri incelendiğinde deney grubundaki öğrencilerin kontrol grubu öğrencilerine göre daha çok olumlu görüş bildirdikleri belirlenmiştir.
