Discussions around political stability is central to Turkish political life. Coalition governments and government formation crises are at the core of such discussions. Following the declaration of the Republic, the Republican People's Party ruled in the single party system between 1923 and 1950. Adoption of the multi-party system enabled the Democratic Party rule between 1950 and 1960, the Justice Party between 1965 and 1971, and the single-party governments of the Motherland Party between 1983 and 1991 were in the administration of the country. Since the general elections in 2002, the Justice and Development Party has remained the single majority party in the country. The Justice and Development Party has maintained its position by increasing its votes in the general electrions of 2007 and 2011. In the general election of 7 June 2015, the ruling party had a significant decline, and lost its majority, while ranking first in both total votes and the number of member of parliaments (258). The new structure of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey failed to produce a coalition government, or a minority government, and a re-election was held on 1 November 2015. In the climate of relative uncertainties stemming from the government crisis and the end of the 13-year single-party regime, the Justice and Development Party emerged victorious, and achieved a majority in the parliament to a vote of a confidence. The present study focuses on the government crisis that took place after the general election of 7 June 2015. Firstly, a comparative analysis is provided in the light of the past government crises in Turkish politics in the course of multi-party Turkish political life. Secondly, the thesis explores in depth which political aspects emerged in the past government crises; what type of strategies the political parties developed in the face of the crises toward their solutions; and how renewing the elections became a tangible option amid the government crises. Finally, the alternative options of government formation in the National Assembly, and, how the parliamentary structure in the 7 June 2015 election did not result in a stable government is assessed. Keywords: General Elections of 7 June 2015, General Elections of 1 November 2015, General Elections, Coalition Government, Government Crisis.
