This study focuses on how the period of World War II was presented to the public by the Turkish press. Based on this focus, the study aims to explain the developments in the fronts, the changes in policy due to the developments and that by which arguments are these policies passed on to society during the Second World War. While the study is performing this purpose; it aims a framing which depends on the chronological course of war. In accordance with this focus, aim and objective; the data were obtained by using documentary scanning and document method. In this context, between 1939-1945 which is the research based on; the copies of the newspapers Tan, Ulus, Cumhuriyet and Akşam which has the highest number of prints and different political trends; were obtained from the Periodicals Branch of the National Library. However, the outstanding developments of the period, archival documents, parliamentary minutes and examination works have been evaluated in the light of previously prepared scientific theses and articles. In this way, the description of the Turkish public's view of the war, the kind of tendencies and which ideas it follows through the discussion is made. Especially because of not knowing who will win the war; the press under control of the Government began to be classified as `Pro-German, Pro-British, Pro-Soviet Russia` and `Anti-German.` According to this, while `Akşam` newspaper was on the side of the Democratic Countries, it can be noticed that `Tan` newspaper was supporting both the Allied Forces and especially The Soviet Russia which was a part of this alliance. It can be seen that at the first years of the war, Cumhuriyet has gave place to some news and articles which were supporting the Germans and published some articles which praise German war power, but after that it can be noticed that according to changes in Government's policy, it began to support allied countries. The `Ulus` newspaper which was also working just like the spokesman of the Government; as well as it was working parallel to the Government's policy, sometimes it can be seen that it was leading the newspapers mentioned above. So, this newspaper generally been at the parallel line with the Turkish Republic and decided its policy according to State's Policy. So, these differences mentioned above, in fact established a suitable basis for the government to implement its balance policy both between the Allied and Axis powers. In this context, the press of the period; depending on the stage of the war in the process of rapid change; has taken responsibility as a platform who presents pragmatic solutions to the public for Turkey who had to decide it's foreign policy both in short and middle terms. At the same time, it is observed that the media of the period conveyed the developments in the war fronts to the public in a continuous manner and based on this, the course of the Second World War was presented to the readers with a wide perspective. Keywords: World War II, 1939-1945, Turkish Press, Akşam, Cumhuriyet, Tan, Ulus, Press History.
