This thesis, which analyzes the traditional architectural structure and monumental masjid structure of the City of Sille, examines the history of Sille in terms of its geographical location and architectural features, and tries to describe the changes in time. In this thesis, which introduces suggestions to develop methods for the ongoing and future preservation practices in Sille, the authorities conducting the preservation works have been contacted as a part of fieldwork and in return, these authorities have been informed about the results of the works to contribute preservation. At the beginning of this study, the historical changes of Sille have been examined, and it has been recognized that, among others, the architectural changes are in parallel with the cultural and sociological changes. This thesis consists of six sections and a laboratory result. In Section 1, the method of the thesis will be generally determined. The issues that should be examined and studied will be categorized within the framework of the general problems of Sille. The methods to be adopted will be described in this section. In Section 2, the geographical location, the physical landscape features of Sille and its historical development will be investigated. Geographical formations around the city, which is located in a valley, have directly affected the architectural formations of the city. Districts have been naturally located along the two sides of the Giret Stream. Furthermore, the historical development of Sille, which is assumed to have existed for approximately 5000 years, will be investigated. The city, where no archeological excavations have been done in the city level yet, has been a densely populated area since the early Christian area. Lastly, the roots of the city name will be partially dealt with.In Section 3, the architectural features of Sille will be analyzed. This section discusses the settlement structure of Sille, the changes of this structure through the history, the vandalism in Sille due to its abandonment following the foundation of the Turkish Republic, the destruction of most of its neighborhoods. In order to disclose its change over the years, the photos in the achieves and its current situation will be compared. Moreover, traditional architectural constructions will be presented in terms of their structural meanings. The construction techniques and original scheme designs have been identified by means of the surveying through field observations. In addition, two different housing projects with completed restoration works will be examined to exemplify the scheme designs of residential buildings.Section 4 will identify and generally define the Sille masjids. After a general description, the buildings will be analyzed one by one. The historical and architectural features of each masjid along with their patents have been examined through on-site observations, and the projects have been prepared after relevant surveying works. It is followed by a general assessment on the restoration works of the buildings and their post-restoration status. This assessment includes the deterioration of the buildings and some findings to guide the future preservation works to be carried out in the vicinity. In Section 5; the preservation process in Sille masjids will be evaluated in a holistic manner within the scope of the architectural practices and preservation approaches. This section will elaborate the sustainability of preservation period following the restoration works, and will analyze the preservation approaches within the scope of preservation principles. In Section 6; preservation works for the whole city will be discussed within the framework of the masjid preservation works, thoroughly examined in Sections 4 and 5, and some suggestions will be made for the urban preservation of Sille. This section, where the detected problems will be disclosed, indicates that the preservation works should be revaluated in the following studies. Lastly, one of the samples of the last original Sille pointing and the pointing samples collected from Subaşı Hammam (the restoration works haven't started yet at that date) were sent to Mimar Sinan Fine Arts University, Material Research Center for Cultural Property and Artworks laboratory for a content material analysis. In the Appendices Section – can be called as Section 7, an extensive report has been prepared. In light of this report, the materials of the pointings of Subaşı Hammam have been defined anew, and studies have continued accordingly.
