The status of the Republic of Tatarstan with Russian Federation is shaped within the right of designating its own future or as it widely known the right to self-determination. Throughout their history, Tatarstan and Russia have been continuously in interactive relations. In order to maintain their survival within the newly constituted order, Tatarstan and Russia, in accordance with right to self-determination are revealing certain political and economic priorities. After the dissolution of the Soviet Union the new order emerging in this geography resulted with the declaration of independence by regional republics; however autonomous republics, such as Tatarstan, have entered into in the struggle for independence. If so, what are the limits of Tatar people's right to self-determination within the theoretical frame of that right? In regard to the three dimensions of that right; namely, the right to external self-determination, the right to internal one, and the right to economic one, does the Tatarstan case actually display? Keywords: Tatarstan, Russia, Sovereignty, Self-Determination, International Law.
