To achieve the exhaust emission regulation limits and to provide the customer's maximum power with minimum fuel consumption request it is necessary to tune up the combustion parameters on dizel engines. Injection system and injection parameters which are set in ECU are the most studied fields to optimize the combustion. In this experimental study fuel injection pressure is variated with pre injection quantity and timing. Main injection is splited in to the two parts. One of them is pre injection other one is main injection. Effect of this variation on the emission and engine power. Four stroke, 1.8 liter dizel engine with 4 cylinder, common rail direct injection system and turbo charger with variable geometry is used for this study. Injection pressure is variated between 120, 130, 140 MPa at 2500 rpm and %50 pedal position. At the same time injection is splited in to the two phase. Pre injection quantity is determined as %5, %10 and %15 of total injected fuel. To be able to see the effect of pre injection advance start of pre injection is variated between 10, 15, 20 crank shaft angel. At the end of the study the effects of the variation on NOx, CO, CO2, HC, smoke, engine power and combustion pressure is invertigated.Test results are show us that by increasing the injection pressure NOx, CO2, specific fuel consumption and combustion pressures are increased and CO, HC, engine power and smoke is decreased. By increasing the pre injection advange NOx, CO2, specific fuel consumption, combustion pressures is increased and CO, HC, engine power is decreased.
