Adolescence is a period studied in many scientific studies. Adolescence involves a stressful and depressive period (Çuhadaroğlu et al., 2004). Family is of great importance for the adolescent to overcome the internal or external conflicts in a stressful period. A productive loyalty relationship between the adolescent and his / her family will be beneficial in solving problems that may be experienced. The sense of belonging is important in adolescence (Booker, 2004). The need for belonging is solved and the individual learns to respect himself and the people around him and starts to gain awareness about his own skills (Ercoşkun and Nalçacı, 2005).The aim of the study was to investigate whether family belonging of high school students showed a significant difference according to some psycho-social variables. The research was conducted in 2018-2019 academic year with students in various high school types in İzmir. The study group consisted of 245 volunteer students. In order to determine participants' personal information form and family belonging levels including psychosocial characteristics developed by the researcher, Mavili et al. (2014) `Family Belonging Scale` was applied. The data were analyzed with Social Sciences Statistical Package Program (SPSS) 22.0. Pearson Correlation Analysis, T Test Analysis for Independent Groups and One Way Variance Analysis for Independent Groups were used in the study.According to the data obtained from the study, there is no significant difference between the levels of family belonging to adolescents and age, gender, mother education level, father education level, number of children, and avoidance from school. The subscale of self-belonging of the students studying at Anatolian high school was found to be higher than those of vocational high school and multi-program Anatolian high school students. Adolescents with a family income of TL 2501 and above had a significantly higher mean family belonging score than adolescents with income of TL 2500 or less. Adolescents with one child and one and two siblings in the family had more family belonging than adolescents with three, four and more siblings. It was found that the mean scores of self-esteem and family belonging of adolescents who were sometimes obeying the school rules were often and always lower than the adolescents obeying the school rules. Again, sometimes it is revealed that the self-esteem and family belonging of the abusive or slang-speaking adolescents are always higher than the abusive or slang-speaking adolescents. In the light of the data of the research, preventing adolescents from taking risky behaviors, increasing their academic success, and providing families with trainings on communication and family planning with children will contribute to the development of their belonging attitudes healthier.
