Özet

This work aims to clarify the relationship of theatre as an art form with reality on the grounds of the concept of mimesis and how the paradox born in this context designates the approach to theatre, as well as to investigate how the general inclinations of theatrical practices from Ancient Greece to the present day are affected by this question. In the first section, the basic considerations/factors determining stage performance and acting in the Ancient Greek Theatre, and how within this framework the origins of staging and the stage presence of the actor are shaped, is examined. In the second section where contemporary theatrical practices are being explored, their appraoch to acting in the staging methods of the Greek director Theodoros Terzopoulos and Şahika Tekand from Turkey are examined by being evaluated within the framework of the 19th and 20th century theatre concepts of the real, reality, illusion, artifice and plausability.
