It is known that traumas trigger sudden cardiac death (SCD) by causing physical/emotional stress. It is aimed to discuss the causality link in the light of the literature and evaluate the findings within the scope of medical and legal jurisprudence.18620 reports prepared by 1st Forensic Medicine Specialization Board of ATK between 01.01.2015-31.12.2018 were analyzed retrospectively. 172 cases with causality between trauma and SCD were included in the study. Statistical evaluation was made using `SPSS Windows 22.0`.Cut-off values were determined as 1-2 hours between stressor and cardiopulmonary arrest (CPA). It was observed that the frequency of time being shorter than cut-off values between stressor and CPA was significantly higher in cases whose injury could be treated by simple medical intervention (SMI) compared to cases whose injury couldn't be treated by SMI (p=0,000118, p=0,000008). The frequency of being shorter than the cut-off values was found to be significantly higher in those with a trauma etiology of altercation than those with traffic accident (p=0,009, p=0,001). In cases with coronary stents, frequency of time being longer than the cut-off values was found to be significantly higher than those who didn't (p=0,008, p=0,000361).Findings suggest that psychological stress is stronger trigger than physical activity in SCDs, as noted by some authors. In cases with CAD, it is stated in the literature that the response to psychological stress is vasoconstriction, and it is thought that the reason for the delayed death in patients with stents in coronaries is that the stent mechanically prevents vasoconstriction.
