Özet

The industrial heritage sites and structures have become profit bearing investment fields of neoliberal urban policies considering the city as a commodity. As an industrial heritage standing on the city center, The Bomonti Beer Factory was reconstructed by Doğuş Group, one of the Turkey's big business groups, to be used in the realization of their investments on food service and entertainment sectors. Bomonti's function as an industrial zone had remained intact for a long time until the early years of the 2000s; as it coincides with these years that it was declared to be a touristic area and was desired to be transformed into a central business space with deindustrialisation sweeping its manufactural characteristics away. As it was with these decisions Bomonti attracted capital and thus became appealing to high-income group and reorganized under their expectations. The transformation of The Bomonti Beer Factory is both a part and the consequence of the socio-spatial changes arising in the district. The refunctioning of industrial areas and structures is mostly realized through culture industry. bomontiada, gathering culture, art, entertainment and food service venues plus an innovation platform under its roof, was changed into a place where culture industry became functional. The businesses set up in the district increased in number after its opening and it is also claimed that bomontiada had an impact on the commercialization of the district.
